AD CLI to create AD Groups

Hi,

I’m looking for a reference guide for using the CLI to administer a domain controller.

I have a lot of security groups to create and using CLI would be much easier.

Can’t seem to find one that covers commands to create a security group.

NAS: TS451
OS: QTS 5.2.7.3256

Never used it, but I think it’s just using the SAMBA AD

https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_an_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller

Thank you, especially for such a quick response.

Hello,
From the title and your description, it seems that your NAS is joined to the Windows AD domain. (Please correct me if I’m wrong)

Once your NAS has joined a Windows Active Directory (AD) domain:

  • The NAS becomes a domain member, not a domain controller.
  • This means it can query domain accounts and groups but cannot modify or manage domain membership directly (like creating group, adding users to groups…etc.).

Instead, you could find and use some Windows commands and run them in Windows PowerShell to perform these actions in your Windows AD server.
Thanks.

Hi Albertshan,

Thanks for replying.

I am indeed using the NAS as a Domain Controller. This is why I was looking for a CLI method to add multiple users/groups etc…

This is just for interest for myself. I saw the capability and thought "Hey, i’ll create a storage domain… Just for fun and education.

Regards

Hi Chris4839:

Thanks for your response.

You can refer to NAS CLI command, “qcli_domaincotroller” which should meet your requirements when you run NAS as a Domain Controller.

Best Regards
