Of course! Here I am, sharing my thoughts in this forum and in this exciting world of NAS.
That small but powerful device that can do so many things, but its greatest ability is… to save your life when everything seems to go wrong and a cunning hacker decides to encrypt all your most valuable data.
But first, let me take you back to the beginnings of my experience with NAS backups, as my story with Qnap began over 14 years ago.
At that time, I decided to buy the first TS-459Pro+, which I sold to an important client and in which I placed my trust to safeguard their data. Although some may not believe it, that NAS is still operational! I only had to replace the power supply a few years ago due to a failure in the UPS it was connected to, but the drives remained intact.
In fact, it has been running for 14 years and, surprisingly, with the same 2TB Hitachi drives without any SMART failures! Incredible, but true. It has functioned as iSCSI for VMware virtual machines, has received backups from Acronis and Nakivo via NFS… but the best part is that it was the hero of the company, as when we suffered a couple of encryptions from WannaCry, it was there, providing the backups that restored the client’s virtual servers.
From that first NAS to the more recent ones with Hero that I have used, going through various ranges and processors like that of the TVS-675, the evolution and improvement have been undeniable.
However, I want to offer you a more fun and engaging perspective to commemorate this backup day, so I will show you what a typical day would look like in a digital world full of threats, where Qnap supports us all.
Cyber Mayhem at the Office! – The Cyber-Villains’ Attack and the Heroic QNAP NAS Squad
SCENE 1: “Just another Monday…”
User 1 (holding coffee):
— Good morning, digital world!
PC screen flickers
Message: “Your files have been encrypted. Pay in Bitcoin.”
Ransomware (laughs evilly):
— MWAHAHA! Welcome to chaos, foolish human!
IT (yells from the back):
— Nooo! That’s the fourth one this week!
SCENE 2: “Calling in reinforcements…”
Desperate sysadmin on the phone:
— We’ve got trojans dancing on the machines, phishing took out accounting, and the intern deleted the production folder!
Manager:
— Activate the QNAP protocol!
Dramatic zoom on the server rack where the QNAP NAS devices glow heroically
- TVS-671: “Ready to deploy instant snapshots!”
- TS-1886XU-RP: “RAID level 99, activated.”
- TS-364: “Auto desktop backups online!”
- TS-h973AX: “I’ll handle the virtual machines!”
SCENE 3: “The Great Restoration”
Trojan (cackling):
— I’ve corrupted the entire sales database!
TS-977XU-RP (calmly):
— Restoring yesterday’s version… Done.
User 2 (tearing up):
— You’re faster than my ex deleting messages!
SCENE 4: “The Phisher’s Plan”
Phishing (wearing a fake mustache and “urgent invoice” email):
— Another user down! I sent malware to all their contacts…
TS-364 (calmly):
— Took a backup of desktops this morning. Restoring profiles and blocking suspicious IP.
TS-1886XU-RP (in the server room):
— Also blocked the script due to abnormal behavior. This Phisher’s fishing with no rod.
SCENE 5: “The Intern Strikes Again”
Intern (embarrassed):
— I accidentally deleted the entire billing system…
TVS-675 (puffing chest):
— Snapshot from last night. Restored in 3… 2… 1.
Manager:
— This NAS has quicker reflexes than you do in soccer, kid!
FINAL SCENE: “Backup Triumphs”
Everyone at the office celebrates while the NAS devices blink like heroic beacons
VOICEOVER:
— Thanks to the QNAP heroes, virtual machines are safe, users are happy, and even the intern still has a job.
TVS-671 (with a virtual cape):
— Remember: “A good backup today saves you from chaos tomorrow.”
