APC UPS BE650G2-GR with QNAP TS-464 – experiences?

Hi,

I recently replaced my older APC BE550G with a new APC BE650G2-GR, connected via USB to my QNAP TS-464.

The UPS is correctly detected by QTS and works normally. However, I have occasionally seen a brief USB communication interruption in the QNAP system log:

“USB UPS unplugged”
followed approximately one minute later by
“USB UPS plugged in”

This does not happen continuously. So far it has occurred only occasionally, at most a few times per day, and the NAS continues running normally. The UPS also continues to provide power; only the USB communication appears to be interrupted temporarily and then recovers automatically.

I have already tried:

  • a direct connection to a USB 2.0 port on the TS-464
  • the original APC USB cable
  • an older APC USB cable with a ferrite filter

My previous APC BE550G worked reliably with the same TS-464 for more than a year without these USB disconnect/reconnect events.

I am aware that the BE650G2-GR is not currently listed in QNAP’s official UPS compatibility list. However, I noticed that some of the APC models listed there are older models that are no longer in production, so I am particularly interested in real-world experience with newer APC models.

Is anyone here using an APC BE650G2-GR with a QNAP TS-464 or another recent QNAP NAS?

If so, I’d be interested to know:

  • Does QTS recognize the UPS correctly?
  • Have you experienced occasional USB disconnect/reconnect events?
  • How long have you been using this combination?
  • Which QTS version are you running?

I’m mainly trying to determine whether this is a known or commonly observed behavior with this APC/QNAP combination, rather than a problem with my individual UPS.

Thanks!

I have seen this myself with cyberpower UPS.

There was plenty of discussions about it in the old forum, try a powered USB hub in between.

I’m not familiar with the new UPS yet. But you’ll probably have to connect it to the PC at some point and check the settings there. Maybe the UPS runs a self-test or something similar from time to time.

There is actually a topic here as well

Could you first try adding a powered USB hub, as suggested by other members here? If that resolves the issue — or if you run into anything else — feel free to let us know. Thanks!

Yes, I already ordered a powered 2.0 hub, I will try it. Meanwhile I asked Qnap to put my APC UPS model on the compatibility list to support officially however it can take a while, I saw on the list many UPS devices already old and outdated…
