Bug report: QuFTP FTP login fails with 530 Login incorrect on TS-453 Pro after update

Hello QNAP Support,

I would like to report what appears to be an authentication regression in a recent version of QuFTP Service.

Problem:
After updating QuFTP, all FTP logins fail with the error “530 Login incorrect”, even though the credentials are correct and unchanged. The exact same configuration worked without issue up to and including QuFTP version 1.4.3. Nothing was changed on the client side.

Environment:

NAS model: TS-453 Pro (Intel Celeron J1900, x86_64)
QTS version: 5.2.9.3499
QuFTP version where the problem appears: 1.4.4
Last known working QuFTP version: 1.4.3
FTP client: lftp, used by an automated backup upload script (unchanged for a long time)
FTP account type: local NAS user

Steps already checked:

Username and password are correct and unchanged.
FTP privilege is enabled for the account in QuFTP Service.
The FTP server is enabled in QuFTP Service.
The 530 error occurs on every connection attempt, not only via lftp, so it does not appear to be a client-specific issue.

Could you please investigate why authentication fails in the current QuFTP version on this model? I can provide QuFTP / QuLog event logs or any other diagnostics you need.

In the meantime, as a workaround, would it be possible to provide the QuFTP 1.4.3 QPKG (x86_64) so I can roll back to the last working version while the issue is being investigated?

Thank you for your reply.

I have already tested version 1.4.5. I even uninstalled the application and reinstalled it, but unfortunately without success.

I checked the permissions of the user account used for FTP access, and they appear to be correct.

I also tested using the admin account, but I still receive the same 530 error.

What surprises me is that there is no information at all in the “Logs” tab.

Whether the issue started after a firmware or QuFTP Service update
Screenshot or error message showing “530 Login incorrect”
Any recent changes to user permissions, shared folder permissions, or FTP settings

any news on this one. having the same issue tho. 1.4.5 is NOT working. admin user works, non admin users wont. same error, 530 login incorrect. created several test users, tested everything. same error..

password WAS correct, re-set it a thousand times.. even with “passwd scanner”..

It looks like in the newer versions, the proftpd process runs with lower privileges and is unable to read the user database.

Check the permissions of the /etc/config/passwd file. If they are set to 600, change them to 644.
