I have two 872XT systems, production and backup.
Both with two 1TB SSDs (RAID1) and 8x20TB HDD (RAID6) arrays
All systems are running QuTS Hero with latest firmware.
My backup 872XT died (eventual red light of death)
I want to move the dead 872XT system drives to my h1288x which I have kept on hand for this purpose.
I confirmed migration compatibility on the QNAP site, but it seems to only have help for QTS to QuTS migration.
I have seen reference to a migration guide but I can’t find it.
Is there any firmware update needed for the h1288x separate from the SSD/HDD arrays?
I tested it a while ago on a spare SSD, but it has not been running to get the latest updates.
Can I just add the SSDs and HDDs to the h1288x system in the original order and boot up?
While I am working on this migration my production system becomes the backup.
Or if the process is smooth and trouble free, I could move my production system to the better h1288x NAS and then put the backup drives in the working 872XT.
Migration should work fine (if the 1288X was never used, make sure to do a quick firmware update with a spare disk and then move all drives and NVMe over), were the SSDs a storage pool (system) or cache ?
SSDs were system, no cache.
I did update the firmware of the h1288x with a spare 2.5” SSD which I shall remove.
Does that make it the equivalent of never used?
Then I plan to install the M.2 SSD RAID1 pair from the dead 872XT.
Do you suggest I boot then, or add the 8x20TB RAID6 HDD array and do it all at once?
I was pleasantly surprise that the “lift and shift” method, simply moving all drives between two different NAS devices worked so smoothly.
Other than having more ports requiring me to update the Virtual Switch, all pools, shares, users etc., were still valid.
Thanks for your help DolbyMan!
