We are using an approximately 14-year-old QNAP system TS-879U-RP with 8 x 6TB disks, which is used as a backup system via SMB.
Now it needs to be replaced with a current model.
My question: which TS model is suitable for this? I consider the TS-832PXU-RP-4G to be a good successor.
Are there any recommendations regarding this?
Thank you in advance!
Hello,
it probably isn’t a good choice.
Your old NAS has an i3 (3rd gen), the TS-832PXU-RP has an ARM A57 CPU and is significantly slower.

In terms of performance, a NAS with an Intel/AMD CPU would be more suitable.

Thank you for the quick reply.
What about the system QNAP TS-864EU-RP-8G?
Looks better.
I am very satisfied with the CPU. It is also installed in my TS-264 (40 GB RAM).
Unofficially, the TS-x64xx can be upgraded up to 64 GB.
With this NAS, you can choose between QTS and QuTShero.

I would prefer QuTShero.
With QuTShero, you can never have enough RAM. My TVS-h674 runs with 64 GB.
QuTShero is significantly faster when creating the storage pool. With Hero, the pool is created in minutes, while with QTS it takes days.
