Failed to install Let's Encrypt cert

Hi,

i use Qnap TS 112P with QTS 4.3.3.2784 and ich try to install Lets Ecnrypt. I get error:

Lets Encrypt certificate installation failed and try later.

Can it be, that my QTS is to old?

Thansk,

Ulli

Quite possibly but what is the reason you need a certificate on the NAS? Please don’t expose your NAS to the internet…

Translated the topic title (was in German).

I can echo, no need to install any certs, never ever ever ever expose a NAS (even more so an ancient x19 unit) to WAN.

Thank you for your reply.

The idea was to mount the NAS as a drive in Windows using NetDrive for home office via QNAP Cloud and WebDAV, including SSL, isn’t that how MyQNAP Cloud is designed to work?

I’d naturally prefer to avoid this, but I have to tell the client.

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.

The idea was to integrate the NAS in Windows as a drive for home office via QnapCloud and WebDAV using NetDrive, including SSL, that’s how MyQnapcloud is supposed to work, right???

Basically, I would also prefer to avoid something like this, but I have to tell the client something.

Thanks

So you should never expose your NAS to the web. There are ways to share files through QNAPs Smart Share utility using MyQNAPCloud that keeps your NAS unexposed. Basically their servers act as a proxy. You can give them download and upload access via a browser (no WebDav though).

Please only reply in English in the English forum!

If your customer is using a 16 year old entry level NAS, it’s time for this customer to upgrade.

Tell you client, they cannot expose this NAS to WAN, this NAS is too old for any Cloud Relay service and they should update the NAS mode to have options like cloud gateways (two way sync with cloud providers) or QNAPCloudLink (Relay service)

Could you please clarify if you installed the certificate via the myQNAPcloud service, or if you configured it manually under Control Panel > Security > Certificate?

The process differs between the two: myQNAPcloud typically automates most of the application and configuration for you, whereas manual setup in the Control Panel generally requires configuration in conjunction with your specific DDNS provider.
