I back up my data to my main NAS (EC880U running QTS 5.2.7.3256) and that works fine. However, I’m running out of space on it so have moved the backup .qdff file to my remote NAS (EC879U running QTS 4.3.6). Both NAS are on the same local network.
I can relink a backup job using the qdff file which is now on the remote NAS but the job will then fail after a few seconds with the error “[Hybrid Backup Sync] Failed to complete Backup job: “Backup 1”. Permission denied.”
RTRR server is enabled on both NAS and remote mount works both ways. RTRR network access approval is set on both to “Allow all connections” Administrator has full read/write permission on all folders involved.
Same issue when I try to set up a new backup with source as main (EC880) NAS and destination the remote NAS. Same error.
Are you using the Shared RTRR server account or the Local NAS account? When you set up the job on the other side, it should attempt to authenticate. Is there where it is failing?
Thanks Jon.
I’m using a shared RTRR account on both machines. Same password. The RTRR server settings on the older 879 box does not have an option to use Local NAS accounts.
I’ve no idea at what stage it is failing. I think I’ve tried all options.
Does backing up to another NAS use RTRR or maybe Rsync?
Starting a backup job from scratch give the same result. Permission denied.
I had hoped that by moving the qdff file to the remote NAS I would not have to start from scratch as that takes about 3 days. In any case, it doesn’t work!
I’m sure it’s something to do with RTRR server permissions not helped by the fact that HBS3 on the EC880 behaves and looks different to HBS3 on the 879.
When the job is running - or trying to run. Backup job starts and then 10s later I get the error. NASes can see each other via RTRR and can mount each other’s folders in File Station. Baffled.
A ticket with QNAP is a good idea.
QNAP support are on the case. There seems to be a problem with the RTRR protocol. It shows up when I am backing up to a legacy NAS with QTS4 OS from a current(ish) NAS running QYS 5.2.
Strange though that everything else between the two boxes seems to work; backup, remote mount.
At least QNAP are on the case and are working on a patch. Glad it wasn’t something silly I was doing.
Unfortunately, following those instructions does not cure my particular problem. I’m lead to believe that a problem with the RTRR protocol manifests itself under some uncommon conditions; such as backing up to legacy hardware.
