Some time ago, if I remember correctly, an HDP3 backup of a local Windows drive resulted in previous file versions being visible in the “Previous Versions” tab of the hard drive. This is a very nice feature. Unfortunately, for some time now, despite backing up drives C, D, etc., there’s no record of previous file versions from the backups (mine has a retention period of 5 days). This lack of previous versions has been a persistent issue since the last two, as far as I remember, HDP3 updates. Is anyone else experiencing this?
looks like they moved backup explorer feature. I found it under backup, click on a machine and then there is a three dots under that menu is backup explorer which shows prior versions. I think that is what you are referring too?
Two versions ago, perhaps before the major update to version 1.3.0, I think, you could restore files from a backup directly from the properties tab of a given local drive. This was a very nice feature. Users could restore accidentally deleted or replaced files themselves. It’s a pity the option disappeared. Our users were accustomed to being able to restore files themselves without administrator assistance. I hope this option returns, as it was brilliantly integrated with Windows.
I think not. Previous version entries for local drives are present, when you make Windows Shadow Copy backups for these drives. In my case backups were created only using HDP3 not with native Windows Backup software. So that’s why I thought HDP3 was somehow cleverly telling Windows that backups made by HDP3 were equivalent to those made by Windows Shadow Copy. That’s why I could find entries for previous versions of data (when the backup was made) in the Previous Versions options tab for the local drives I was backing up. This is no longer available in the current version so far. It would be wise to ask QNAP if this option previously existed and was withdrawn.
