Confirmed, Entware’s Python has been upgraded from 3.11.10 to 3.13.9, leaving Watcher3’s existing virtual environment incompatible. In the end, I managed to get Watcher3 running again with the following changes:
- Created a new Python 3.13 virtual environment.
- Installed compatible dependencies, including
setuptools==80.9.0,typing_extensionsandlegacy-cgi. - Created a small Python launcher (
watcher3-launch.py) that preloadspkg_resourcesandtyping_extensionsbefore executingwatcher.py. This works around incompatibilities with older libraries bundled in Watcher3’srepo-cache/lib. - Modified
watcher3.shto use the new virtual environment and launcher. - Disabled Watcher3’s automatic Git update check (
Server.checkupdates = false), as it was hanging during startup on a Git fetch. - Disabled automatic updates for OWatcher3 in
/etc/config/qpkg.confto avoid having the workaround overwritten by an automatic update.
Watcher3 is now running happily again through the standard QPKG service script. I suppose I have a little more time now to put some money aside for a new NAS. It’ll have to be another QNAP, of course. I couldn’t possibly contemplate a life without sherpa!
