Qsync integration with macOS File Provider API (Quick Look / On-Demand Download)

Request:

Add native integration of Qsync for macOS with Apple File Provider API.

Problem:

Qsync (v5 and v6) does not support File Provider, which causes:

  • No Quick Look preview (Space bar) for online-only files

  • No automatic on-demand download triggered by Finder

  • Non-native and inconsistent macOS user experience

Impact:

This is a major usability gap compared to iCloud Drive and OneDrive and a key reason why macOS users avoid or abandon Qsync.

Expected behavior:

  • Finder-managed placeholders

  • Automatic download when pressing Space (Quick Look)

  • Full compatibility with macOS cloud file workflows

Benefit for QNAP:

  • Parity with leading cloud platforms on macOS

  • Stronger adoption of Qsync 6

  • Better perception of QNAP software quality among Apple users

Summary:

Without File Provider API support, Qsync cannot deliver a modern macOS experience.

This integration would significantly improve usability and competitiveness.

TOP!!!
Very good and welcome proposal.

When I run QFINDER on my MAC mini and Macbook Pro, as soon as I log into the network connection, the network drive appears in the sidebar of Finder! Also, the preview function can be used with the spacebar.

I think the OP is talking about something completely different. First of all, Qfinder is 100% not needed for anything. You can log into the network connection via the Mac’s own interface.

What the OP is talking about is Qsync - it is an entirely different program. Qsync has an offline files mode where files are stored on the NAS and have to be downloaded to the computer to view/access them. Files in that mode do not utilize the File Provider API and cannot be previewed.
