Qsync Issue with Large Files

So this issue is more for QNAP staff than a general “question” for the forum. I’m probably going to open a ticket for this as I see this as a fairly major issue.

I have Qsync, synchronizing data between my work OneDrive and my NAS. This is being done on my Mac. I’ve been seeing issues with files being deleted from the OneDrive and I have narrowed it down to Qsync. Here are some observations:

1.) I have a Teams call and record the call so that Co-Pilot can create notes, I can share the call video with team members or customers, etc. Shortly after the video file is saved to my Recordings file in One Drive, I get a notice that it has been deleted. This has happened multiple times.

2.) I had an issue a number of weeks ago, where I started syncing. There was a public folder that was included in this sync. All of a sudden items started getting deleted from this folder. Folder admins were reaching out to me asking what was going on and why I was deleting files. It was Qsync.

Qsync should not be doing this but I think there’s a paradigm that QNAP has that is not quite right. QNAP assumes that Qsync is syncing the NAS to the PC/Mac. That’s true but many times I want to sync the MAC/PC to the NAS. I know this is a fact because if you select “Selective Syncrhonization” for the paired folder set, any folders you want to EXCLUDE must exist on the NAS. There is not option to exclude folders from the PC/MAC side. So if you want to exclude a folder on the PC/MAC side from syncing, you have to create a blank folder on the NAS before you set up the folder pair and then you can exclude it when you start the sync.

Second, I know this is also the fact because if I took one of the video files that Qsync deleted and put it in the “Recordings” folder on the NAS, it would then sync the video file back to my OneDrive and all was good. Today I disabled syncing the recordings folder and my recordings have stayed in place.

Qsync should NEVER delete files that have been created on the PC/MAC unless those files are deleted on the PC/Mac. It seems like it sync changes in smaller files just fine. But if the file is larger in size, Qsync just deletes it instead of syncing it. This is horrible behavior. I don’t know why/how it does it but it’s a serious issue.

Qsync should be set up so that you can exclude folders on either side - Mac/PC or NAS.

These a fundamental and basic concepts of synchronizing sets of folders. A creation of a large file is a change and it should be sync’d.

Thank you for your feedback! I will ask the internal team to look into this issue.
