Setup of new TS-464 stuck

I just purchased a new TS-464. I populated it yesterday with disks, connected it to a switch, and powered it on. That is where things got hairy. I was not able to complete setup until someone from the Reddit community suggested removing all of the disks. I did that and was indeed able to complete setup and then began inserting the disks one-by-one, waiting a minute or two between disks. Now, on to my issue…

The disk are reading healthy (I ran an Iron Wolf Health Management on each disk (they are 16TB Iron Wolf drives). I have a pool (that I did not create) that has a Status of "Error (Not active). I have tried to delete it by going to Manage > Remove Pool but there is a Loading wheel that is stuck at 23%. I am not sure where to go from here. Someone from the Reddit community said it could be a broken backplane? I am open to any and all suggestions.

Are the drives new? Sounds like they may have had existing partitions. If so, I would put them in a USB dock, or similar, and remove all partitions and start again.

Is it this case ?

While QNAP does come here, they will still request you open a ticket.

They are not new (they are from work) and they did have existing at a on them. I thought I erased the data when I inserted them (QNAP asked me whether to restore the pool or restart and I chose restart). Can I not erase them from within QNAP? I would have thought I could have.

You can start the NAS without drives and then insert the drives during setup (the NAS will offer to erase them), this should erase the disks no matter what (but a sure fire way would be to clan them via diskpart for instance (with clean flag)

Yes. This is the Reddit post. I believe that you helped me out there as did the other commentor. Thanks!

I work in IT for an advertising HoldCo so I am not afraid to tinker. I have never dealt with QNAP though. Just StorNext, InfoTrend, and the like. I have not dug into the UI all that much (I just hooked it up yesterday and had to go back to work today.). Was planning on opening a ticket in a day or two once I got one last crack at it.

If you do not need all the data on the old hard drive, you can insert all HDD during initialization and then select the last option “Initialize System.” This will delete all data during the initialization process.

Yeah. I did that initially. I think I got a Screen like the one above but I think it only had options to “Load the current system” or “Restore the factory settings” I rebooted the system a few minutes ago, with the disks in, but did not get this option again. Will I need to remove the disks and reboot the system to get the screen you mention above?

see my earlier reply, as I had already mentioned this method

That worked! Thanks!! I figured out my problem. When I rebooted and inserted the disks as I had done before, I got the exact same screen I had previously, only showing the two options. I needed to scroll down to see the third option but the UI did not indicate (at least to me) that scrolling was an option. All good now. The NAS is seeing all 4 16TB disks as healthy. I just need to begin setting up PLEX now.
