Hello! I’m Sam, and I’ve used other companies’ NAS devices in the past and recently expanded to a QNAP device (TS-873A). I’m trying to do some fairly specific things with my unit, and I’m hitting a bit of a wall.
From the ask of included information:
Windows
TS-873A
QTS 5.2.7.3256
1.) I’m trying to set up my NAS in part as a media server, accessible through Kodi via NFS/UPnP/SMB of whatever actually works. With pervious devices, I’ve used UPnP. If the QNAP requires opening ports or whatever… I’m gonna need some help on that. Treating me like I’m completely clueless would be greatly appreciated.
2.) My preference would be to have multiple volumes, with some as media servers and some as cloud data storage for work. It’d be nice to retire some of my other devices.
3.) With the previous devices, and Windows, I was able to link the device with Explorer to treat the NAS as just another drive. I thought I had done that with my TS on initial setup (via the QFinder app), but “lost” the connection when updating my NAS. Is that a normal issue, and if I set it up again it should remain stable, or is this something that will regularly occur with firmware updates and whatnot?
Thank you for your patience.
