Storage unmounted after firmware update

I have a TVS-882. Worked great until fimware update. Mine has two arrays and first is Raid1 mirror of 2 NVME drives. It boots and I can get to admin screen, but main RAID 10 array shows error. Mine has 4 drives, all show healthy, but system now thinks it should have six drives instead of 4 drive. There are six bays in mine, but the last two are empty.

I have moved your post out of an unrelated topic

I restored to earlier firmware version. This displayed all 6 drives as healthy with two bays empty, but no second volume.

Ran command
/etc/init.d/init_lvm.sh

This then showed the 2 NVME drives as used and the other 6 available.

Ran commands
vgscan --mknodes
vgchange -a y

Which then found the array and mounted it.

It is running again now.

In my situation, I did not have a lot to lose. It was not data that we backup. It was actually backup data. Getting the drive working, was more important than losing the backups stored on it. We can make more backups, but hard to backup system without the main drive. Data loss would not have been ideal, but better than waiting days for support. It worked and we are back up and running. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT USING THESE COMMANDS!!! However, if it helps support, or others in a “I have nothing to lose” situation, might get you closer to a solution.

What firmware did you upgrade to/from ?

So QNAP support can have a look later

I think TS-X82_20250913-5.2.7.3256 is breaking it. I have a set of twins and her sister upgraded fine. Her sister has all 6 drives populated though, where this one only has 4. It did fail on the TS-X82_20250913-5.2.7.3256 firmware update originally, but when one failed and the other did not, I just reverted back to TS-X82_20250818-5.2.6.3229 and the drives showed up again. I thought what the heck and tried to update to TS-X82_20250913-5.2.7.3256 again and it worked that time. Life was good until a few days ago and it went off-line again.

The second time restoring to TS-X82_20250818-5.2.6.3229 did nothing. Still showed 4 drives healthy, two drives off-line, but for some reason thought the two empty drives had gone bad.

As a hailmary went back to TS-X82_20250526-5.2.5.3145 and all six drives then appeared healthy, and the two empty bays were green instead of failed red. Ran the commands and was able to repair. I then upgraded to back to TS-X82_20250818-5.2.6.3229 and all is fine now. Going to stay here for a bit.

Looks like they may have fixed this now…
QTS 5.2.7.3297 build 20251024
Fixed Issues

  • Fixed an issue where, under certain conditions, domain users could not copy certain files despite having the correct permissions.

  • Resolved an issue where, if domain users had been assigned delegated roles, “Control Panel > Privilege > User Groups” would display an empty list unless users manually refreshed it.

  • Fixed an issue where, when a container service port was connected via a USB-to-LAN adapter, disconnecting the LAN cable would cause the port to become inaccessible.

  • Fixed an issue on certain NAS models where, after a firmware update, the system might incorrectly indicate that some disks have been removed.

  • Improved startup stability for certain NAS models.
