Is this able to be done, and if it is, can someone please help me by explaining the setup? The NAS is a TS-521 +2gb0
What is the actual question?
You want to sync an external HDD (sync what ?) connected to a Windows PC. Where does the QNAP come into play?
Yes this a questions. I have an external hard drive connected to my desktop that is my storage for the desktop. It is not backing up to the nas. The items I wish to sync is the data on the external hard drive to the nas.
Connect the drive to the QNAP and create a sync job via HBS3
Also make sure you fix your NAS model up there, there is no TS-521 (talking about a TS-251?)
Yes it is the TS-251. I fully understand I can hook it up to the QNAP itself. If i do that I can not access it as the hard drive for my desktop. Is there a way to keep it hook to the desktop, and back it up, as that is where everything I work on is saved daily? The desktop is a small BeeLink with a very small hard drive.
Just use the QNAP as your storage target and use any backup program of your choice.
I would advise to use Veeam (free), you can do file or even bare metal restore backups to your NAS.
Thank you for your advice.
Use Qsync on the PC. You can then set it up so that the drive is sync’d to the NAS.
