I have a TR-004 with 2 Seagate Ironwolf Pro 16TB. Raid 1 Configuration.
I now want to add 2 more drives, and was planning to add 2 x 20TB drives. Can someone confirm that if I add in I will need to set up as a separate volume. Can I apply Raid 1 configuration to this new volume only?
What is the goal with these two drives ?
Add them to the RAID ? (not possible)
Add them as individual single disks (depends on how the TR is configured and what it’s connected to)
Add them as a second RAID1 (same as above)

Hi - and thanks for coming back
I guess that I wouldn’t be able to add them to the exiting raid. But can I add and set up a new raid for a new volume? (Your note above suggest I can.) I can handle there being 2 drive assignments within the enclosure. related question - if I set up the drives in a new Raid i presume i would need to use software control not the dip switches?
To do this, the TR needs to be in software control and you need to use the RAID manager software
I think there was a recent topic about it, either here or on reddit.
The German QNAP forum just had a discussion about the TR beeing able to do a mixed size spanning JBOD (yes, that works too)

Could you clarify: Are you using Software RAID or Hardware RAID?
Based on your needs, you should be using Software RAID.
Important Reminder: If you need to make any changes, please remember to back up your data first to ensure its safety!
Hi There
Yes I am in Hardware mode at present - but plan to switch to software mode to handle the additional drives. I wish i had thought about it earlier ! I am backing everything up now before I make the change

Just so his is recorded for others to see. I can confirm that switching from Hardware Raid 1 mode to software control worked fine. No data loss.
