Asking about NAS usage and recovery after a single SSD system drive failure on TS-264 (QuTS hero)

Hello,

I’d like to ask about the system drive configuration and recovery mechanism of TS-264 using QuTS hero.

Currently, the plan is to install just 1 SSD as the system drive, mainly for the system and application installation, together with 2 HDDs in RAID 1 for primary data storage.

I’d like to confirm the following scenarios:
If the SSD used as the system drive fails in the future—as there is only 1 SSD and no RAID 1 is set up:

  1. Will the HDD RAID 1 synchronize or retain any system-related data from the NAS? If the damaged SSD is removed, is it possible to boot up and continue using the NAS and access the data in the HDD RAID 1?
  2. If the NAS continues to operate after SSD failure, can you simply replace the SSD, reinstall the system, and return to normal operation?
  3. Or, after SSD failure, do you need to reinstall the SSD, reinstall QuTS hero, and reconfigure the HDD RAID 1 before the NAS can be used normally again?

However, based on my understanding, the system shouldn’t completely crash, but the configuration files and other data you mentioned on the faulty SSD may indeed be lost. Would you be able to share with us which programs you plan to install or which applications you intend to run?
