I Have 2 QNAP NAS. 1 is TS-251+ anda other is TS-451. I’m Upgrade RAM all to 16GB. In its work fine in few years.
I’m Set my both NAS its wake-up every afternoom & shudown every morning … A few days ago my TS-251+ woke-up but not for TS-451.
My TS-451 its on Out of Warranty.
There’s no LED indicator. I’m unplug power cord dan plug in power cord but no change. I’m take off all HDD and cashing … try to plug in power cord again but same (no life indicator).
I’m Unplug All RAM module and change to default RAM (1GB) (lukely I’ll still have it) … try to plug in power cord again but same again (no life indicator).
I’m change the CMOS battery to the new one … … try to plug in power cord again … in this time LED power TURN ON but No life indicator (No fan spinning, No POST boot display in monitor)
Usualy if RAM failure or other failure beside motherboard is FAN is spinning …
When i’m buy TS-451 its came with 100ohm resistor on LPC connector. and I’m take-off this resistor but no change at all & I think this is not LPC issue

Your power supply could be bad. Try powering the TS-451 with the TS-251+ power supply. See if you get any signs of life.
Turning things on and off like you do can shorten life spans. Devices like a NAS are designed to really stay powered on all the time. Powering up and down repeatedly can over the long term cause damage to components.
Thanks Man. Try with your advise but not work. I’m despeat … for the last think i’lll do. I took off RAM Module anda CMOS battery … I wash the board with thinner & alcohol & blow up with compressor … of course with pray to GOD… Guest what ?
Given the look of your NAS, physically, I am surprised it it still running! It looks very dirty. I would clean it up a bit and store it in a little bit cleaner of an environment! As an owner/user of a TS-451, it would by hypocritical to tell you to just upgrade to a new NAS (I did do that and the experience is so much better). But you should consider moving that direction and start saving for a new NAS. Both of our old 451s could die at any time.
I think you are right. My TS-451 only runs for less than 2 hours and immediately dies. I think I have to buy a new NAS, and I am interested in the QNAP TS-433. Is the QNAP TS-433 motherboard sold separately? and installed into the TS-451 casing.
If possible, can QNAP marketing give me a discount price for the QNAP TS-433 motherboard. because I see the shape is similar to the TS-451. Thank you in advance .
First of all, no. QNAP does not sell motherboards. You could not just swap out the motherboard anyhow. It’s a completely different product. QNAP does have a “trade-in” program where you can get a discount on a new NAS from their website.
Second, I would not recommend the TS-433. It uses an ARM CPU and it will not support the same features as the TS-451. Plus you would need to rebuild everything from scratch (your drives cannot just be mounted in the TS-433).
Third, the ARM A55 4 core is going to be barely faster than the J1800 you currently have.
I would recommend moving forward with a 4-bay that is an x86 based system and not ARM based. The A55 is a great core for a lot of things (I know as I used to sell ARM based MPUs - I’m recently retired from that life), but it’s not a good core for a NAS. People like it because it is cheap, but you give up a lot.
The TS-464 might be a good choice. It has far more features than the TS-433 and is only $200 more. Unfortunately, it is sold out on QNAP’s website right now.
Scratch that - TS-462. This is the NAS to get. It is brand new and is only $130 more than the TS-433 and you will get something like a 10% discount for the trade-in program from the QNAP store. Will be a significant step up in performance from the TS-451.
The base unit of the TS-462 comes with just 4 GB of memory. For another $100 you can get a model with 8 GB installed. That’s not a bad increase in memory for just $100 considering what memory is going for these days.
Thank you for your quick response. I read that the trade-in program is only available in the US, while I’m in Indonesia. For now, I think the TS-433 is sufficient, and on the Indonesian marketplace, the TS-464-8G costs twice as much as the TS-433. Maybe I’ll split some tasks since I still have the TS-251-16G running. The TS-433 is currently only used for file backup and simple tasks like local DNS and proxy servers.
I don’t know the lifetime of the TS-433. It’s currently listed on QNAP’s website but is not available from their store here in the US (says out of stock). So not sure if it’s nearing end of its production life or if they are just simply out of stock.
As far as hardware issue, I couldn’t speak to that. ARM platforms are solid, but just not in the same performance class as the x86 chips. QNAP is using only what are considered low power mobile chips in their platforms and not higher power ARM cores like the A74 or later.
Only you can make a decision on what NAS is best for you. Just remember your current drives will not work in the TS-433.
Sir. Have you ever replaced a TS-251 motherboard to a TS-451 chassis? or vice versa. can anyone have some experience with this ? So my TS-251+ can run with 4 drive. cool isn’t it?
I Try to switch the board… from hardware side.. There is No Issue. All 4 HDD indicator in TS-251+ is Solid green (Not flashing). BUT. There is no activitiy detect.. and its boot loop.
Yes the problem is on SATA riser and those can not be subtitut/vise verse.
