TS-451+: Unable to access boot menu

Are there any other boot menu keys? F11 doesn’t seem to do anything on my TS-451+

I’m trying to reflash my ts-451+

I created a bootable USB drive
I copied the TS-x51+ image to the root of the USB stick
I’ve connected the stick to my NAS
During the boot sequence I see squares on the screen and Starting...
No amount of hitting F11 brings up a menu
And then I’m dropped into a GRUB screen, where I can choose DOM or the DOM backup

F2 and delete would be keys I’d try (the old forum is currently down, so I cannot check)

Thanks for the tip
I was able to get into BIOS and turn disable silent boot.
When the machine starts I guess it doesn’t make it out of POST successfully after all
The following is all that’s printed before the machine beeps, show me the error, and drops me into a grub session

What happens if you throw any bootable USB stick (with whatever OS you like) on it and try to boot from that ?

I have tried numerous USB slots with a bootable USB stick and I end up on the grub menu

Did you switch the boot order beforehand ?

hmmm
when i look at the bios > boot > boot option priorities i see

  • Boot option priorities
    • Boot Option #1 [ USB DISK MODULE PMAP ]

is that the setting you’re asking about?

Yes, that option is the DOM (disk on module), see if you have any other options when a USB stick is connected

hmmm …
i rebooted and now i see more options

  • Boot Option Priorities
    • Boot Option #1 [ USB DISK MODULE PMAP ]
    • Boot Option #2 Generic Flash Disk
    • Boot Option #3 UEFI

And then I swapped options 1 and 2 and now I’m booting DSL!
But I’m getting the dreaded Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry error now

oh boy, it seems like the machine must be falling apart
because usb ports work and then during the next boot they don’t
the boot option priorities have reset

Could be the LPC death

thanks for stepping through that with me
i guess i’ll try the non-soldering shrinkwrap option i found on reddit
and see how it goes

Out of curiosity, when you’re plugging usb, did you try using same or diff. usb ports? Also when you’re imaging your usb, what file system did you try setting it up with?

nibbles

I noticed that sometimes the keyboard didn’t work in bios or grub
I found that if I replugged it, that would often sort the issue. But not always.
I think I noticed that the USB stick didn’t always work and sometimes had to move it around?

I imaged the stick on linux. I tried cli and gui. CLI I ran mkfs.fat -F 32 /dev/sda. And I used pop os Disks to set it bootable. I also tried only using Disks and set the partition type to Win95 FAT32 (LBA) 0x0c.

What ram are you running?

2 8gb crucial ddr3l 1600 sodimm

i tried connecting a 100ohm resistor from pin 1 to pin 8
rather than booting the machine did nothing
the power light came on and the drive lights remained lit (all bays were empty)

Without a scope it’s impossible to tell if this improved the signal or not (or if the signal is an issue at all)
