TS219PII failing to install firmware / initialize

Dear users,

When trying to install my new WD Ultrastar DC HC320 8TB drives my QNAP TS219PII won’t start the normal ‘smart installation’ process. Instead it show a screen promting to install firmware. I have tried all firmware versions available but none worked. The installation goes to 1-3% and then fails. (See screenshots).

I’ve tried reformatting the drives. They are recognized in other TS219PII systems were they worked as a 2nd drive. I’ve tried factory resetting but nothing works.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

looking at the specs of that very old system: 13 years old NAS :grimacing:

HDD 2 x 3.5" or 2.5” SATA II HDD/SSD
NOTE:

1. Maximum raw capacity: 8TB
2. The system is shipped without HDD.

maybe those drives are not compatible, or did they even work in that NAS at all?

They worked perfectly well when I used them as 2nd drive next to a 2TB WD drive. I just tried it with only one 8TB drive and this give me the same installation errors. Weird.

I can only suggest trying to remove any partitions from the drives in a USB caddy or something away from the NAS first of all then plug them back in and see if you can install the firmware again.
