You miss the point completely. And, yes, I remove everything possible on every O/S I have on all my devices. It’s a matter of principle for me to remove bloatware. QNAP may be better than some, but there is no point in having an app installed that will never get used.
Tysm, @Colette1970 . That’s a lot of work! Users should not need to do such an endeavour!
I paid a lot for the NAS.
@dosborne that’s it. I totally agree.
I agree with you we shouldn’t need to do such an endeavor, you asked for a way to remove completely Malware Removal from your NAS, I gave you my solution which might not be the easiest, but it works, now if you know an easier way, (which I doubt) I’m all ear.
I don’t know of an easier way! I really appreciate the effort you made to clarify and solve the issue; and I’m very grateful.
The bitch part in my method is to reinitialize the NAS only once to put it back to manufacturer default with no Malware Removal on it. You don’t need to reinitialize the NAS every time there’s a new firmware update, just download the new firmware then once installed and the NAS is restarting, unplug the modem.
Hi mate, I finally got around to reinitialising my TS-251+.
Agree, Malware Remover wasn’t there immediately after first startup. However, as soon as I created a storage volume, MR was installed automatically by QTS.
If you are willing to do it again, reinitialize, the NAS, BUT this time unplug your modem, create the Volume(s), install your NAS settings the way you want it. If you leave your modem unplugged, you should see after “Malware Removal” failed to download.
See all my explanations in another post.
Cheers mate, but the only reason for the reinit was to check if Malware Remover is now installed automatically. ![]()
Yes, It is not installed in the built in Qnap OS it is not present before you create the Volume(s), but once you create the volume(s), it will automatically download Malware Removal from the internet, and install it.
… which I have already confirmed. ![]()
For those who may want it: I’ve written a script to remove the existing Malware Remover QPKG, and prevent it being re-installed until the NAS is restarted.
Use it along with the RunLast QPKG for boot-persistent automation.
Update: tested OK as far-back as QTS 4.2.6, and on Malware Remover versions released from 6th January 2023 onward.
