0x80070035 error with appearance of 'ghost' NAS

Although I have considerable experience with computers (have built my own since my 486), I have little experience with Networks and network security. I have a TS-x53D which is ONLY used to back up my and my spouses computer, both of which run Win 10. Her access to the NAS works fine. My mapped drive xxxx(MYNAS\homes) and MYNAS under networks fail with Ox80070035 errors. I am able to access the NAS with QNAP finder and directly with the IP address. I was able to restablish a mapped access to the NAS by replacing MYNAS with the IP i.e. xxxx(\192.168.1.13) (T:), but I still get errors with the NAS name under Network, MYNAS.

Simultaneous with this problem a ‘ghost’ MYNAS has appeared under “This PC” with accessible ‘Music’, ‘Photos’ and ‘Videos’ folders that I didn’t even know existed, but none of the folders I use for backups.

I have searched for solutions for Ox80070035 errors and have tried some of the varied suggestions, but none have solved the problem.

Any suggestions for how to allow access to my NAS through MYNAS (specified NAS name)?

Instead of the nas name try using the nas ip and port. “\\192.168.1.xxx:8080\homes”

Using “real” names for network devices instead of the IP addresses on home networks without using a host file can be iffy. I’ve seen it multiple times before myself where I can access via the IP address but not via the host name. Just access it via the IP address and be done with it. Don’t worry about it. You can create a “hosts” file which will tell your machine to use a specific name for a specific IP address.

Here’s a quick help article I found online:

Create a new Windows hosts file?

Google does a nice AI overview if you search on Good for “create host file windows 10”

As for the “ghost” NAS don’t worry about it. These are all the default shared folders of the QNAP. You have some default music samples and photos just to show you what the thing can do. That’s all. You can ignore all those and just use the device for your backups.

That will be the DLNA server…disable it and this should disappear

Thanks for all the suggestions - much more than I expected and, also, much sooner. I’ll report back after I try these.

BINGO! When I accessed my hosts file I found MYNAS with an incorrect IP address! What would change this after all these years?

Who knows. Maybe your NAS has a different IP address than in the past? Does your NAS have multiple network connections and you aren’t using one you used in the past?
