10gb - NAS-TS-765eU

I’m new to the QNAP community and am looking forward to exchanging ideas with you all.

Currently, I’m having an issue with the performance of my 10 GbE network connection at home. I hope that the experienced members here can give me some pointers or tips for troubleshooting.

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i9-11900K @ 3.50GHz, 3504 MHz, 8 cores, (RAM) 32.0 GB

BaseBoard product ROG STRIX Z590-A GAMING WIFI

Network: Marvell AQC113 10Gbit network card.

Windows 11 Pro 25H2.

Switch: Unifi USW Pro XG 10 Poe with Cat6A cabling.

NAS: NAS-TS-765eU with QXG-ES101T 10gb network card; 2 x Samsung 990 Pro SSD RAID1 (Thick Volume) system pool without cache; 2 x Seagate Ironwolf Pro RAID1 (Thin Volume); QTS 5.2.9.3499.

My question is: What do I need to configure so that the single stream performance (-R) improves? Is that even technically possible?

In multi-stream tests, I’m already reaching nearly the full 10 Gbit/s speed. However, single stream performance is much lower. So I’m interested to know whether there’s still potential for optimization here or if these values are normal for my setup.

I haven’t read anything yet about how the NAS is set up… RAID1 for the SSD system pool and RAID1 for the two HDDs?

Exactly, RAID1 (thick volume) for the SSD system pool without cache and RAID1 (thin volume) for the two HDDs.

OK, and the test was run by the SSD array? (The way the random numbers dropped, it almost looked like an HDD test)

QuTS always has ARC enabled too (which distorts a lot of tests)

On my end (h1288X), I actually get faster results on HDD vs SATA SSD pools in short benchmarks, at least in quick tests.

Correct. The test was conducted from the PC to the SSD. However, iperf3 -R shows the anomaly in single stream, regardless of QuTS.

I’d open a ticket about this—you never know, maybe the processes are really single-core heavy and the small Atom cores reach their limit quickly. With several simultaneous processes, more cores could be utilized.

WinSCP SFTP connection PC>NAS-TS-765eU

10GB file:

PC > NAS-TS-765eU = 1.57 min (approx. 85 MB/s; 684 Mbit/s)

NAS-TS-765eU > PC = 1.58 min (approx. 85 MB/s; 678 Mbit/s)

I think I’ve found the solution. I connected my NAS directly to my switch using the SFP+ 10 Gbit port, and now I’m getting the full 10 Gbit speed—both single and multistream. It was also important, and crucial, after changing the network card QXG-ES10G1T from MTU1500 to MTU9000 to completely restart the NAS so that this important setting would be recognized. Finally, it’s working.
