2FA bug and i'm locked out my NAS

I enabled 2FA on my TS-453D NAS, and now I can’t connect. If I try to do so with the Auth app, which worked until recently, it says the number is incorrect. If I ask it to send me the code via email, it sends me a message with a 1-digit code that’s obviously incorrect. As a result, I can’t connect to my NAS, nor can I access 20TB of data.

I contacted support, and they calmly replied that they’re aware of it, that it’s a known bug and that they’ll fix it in an upcoming release. For now, all I can do is hard reset the system and restore everything.

Has anyone had the same problem and managed to resolve it in a less invasive way?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You can disable 2FA by performing a short (3-second) reset.

A few basic settings will be reset to defaults. Most won’t, and your data will remain.

2FA is also time sensitive, so you have to ensure both systems have correct date/time value (sync to NTP server) although it does sound like in your case something else is borked. Or, just leave it disabled as it causes more issues than anything else and doesn’t really provide you any security.

Never expose your web admin interface to the internet. Use a VPN connection (free) to connect to your network and then access it from there.

After your 3 second reset to clear 2FA, the default admin password will be reset.
