After updating to the newest OS, SMB Service and adv.network.driver on our two Qnap TVS-2472XU’s, all the Macs on the network continuously gets disconnected. What could that be?" (Tried a lot of trb.shooting, incl. switching to 1Gb connections on the servers, SMB kernel driver on/off, and even tried AFP, so its not just SMB…)
Do you have non-ASCII characters in your pathnames? This is mentioned in another post regarding issues with TimeMachine. I don’t know if it makes a difference in normal SMB mounts but thought I would mention it.
How is TimeMachine related to SMB disconnects? (Also, haven’t used TM for more than 20 years, when it was discovered that it s#cks.)
Why would illegal pathnames suddenly become a problem and kill the SMB or AFP mechanism?!? Also, there are millions of files on each server in thousands of folders, so I’m 99.9997% sure there’s A LOT of non-ASCII characters in there ![]()
Look, I don’t know but TimeMachine uses Samba connections. It may be an issue or it may not - I don’t know. If you choose to scoff at a suggestion then that is your issue. I just suggested trying it out.

Hi, is there any pattern to the disconnection issues you’re seeing? For example, does it happen at a specific time or after performing a certain action?
For this issue, we recommend you open a support ticket for us. Our Support Team will assist you further.
Happens all the time all over the place, have already opened a ticket ![]()
At our workplace, this almost always takes place around 8:30 CEST.
But I don’t think it’s related to SMB. AFP clients experience the same problem. And not all clients experience it every day. It seems to be a short disruption that not every Mac notices each time it happens.
We I did not yet update to SMB V4.15.004 yet (still on V4.15.003)
Thank you - unfortunately it happens ALL the time on ALL the workstations since this last update ![]()
My macbook has been doing this for months now after some qnap update. It only happens on “sleep’ so that would be like closing my lid or just naturally going to sleep based on power settings. And it does not always happen instantly. If I close the lid for a couple minutes then open it would be fine but say overnight its almost every time. I was hoping it would get fixed but no luck yet.I never could figure anything out and ended up using a script to just reconnect the drives which takes a couple seconds to do. Annoying but I never found that many people reporting it so I thought it was not wide spread.
This is different - happens while people are working - resulting in BeachBalls and crashes all over the place :-/
I will also open a ticket. Maybe it will help speed up the fixing process @ QNAP support ![]()
