An old TS1232PXV-RP

Guys,

I have an old TS1232PXV-RP. It says the disk in slot 5 has an error, so I replaced the disk with a known good (tested in another TS1232PXV-RP). The Drive access light flashes green then sets red and the drive is shown as failed. Remove drive, insert into the other TS1232PXV-RP and it shows good.

OK so we have established its probably a backplane issue. The question is how much for a backplane replacement? I suspect the cost of an out of warranty repair is around the same as a second user unit from eBay (back up config, shut down, swap all the hardware, boot and restore config) but wondered if anyone has a figure for the replacement backplane.

We are extremely budget constrained here hence the not just throwing a new NAS in to replace a 8 year old unit.

Of course, another drive is in warning on the RAID (3 bad sector reports in SMART) - slot 5 went bad when doing a full test on slot 10. The best solution is to do the backplane repair so the RAID can rebuild and I can sort out the other disk later.

Hello,

i think Level 2 or 3

Thanks for your input guys.

I have raised a ticket.

It seems the slot is doing something weird - the original disk is back in it, working fine and the RAID rebuilt.

I guess I can swap the drive with the warning out (hoping slot 5 doesn’t trip again during the rebuild) or wait to see if I get the repair approved (site is moving to “the cloud” soon so apparently “in the cloud you don’t need backups” according to someone with more CEO clout than I) and hope drive in slot 10 doesn’t get any worse. 3 SMART bad sectors in a week… but none in the last couple of days
