Last Friday, our TS-469 Pro did a soft reset on its own. After some research, I found out that this is a known bug, so I disabled the Reset Button for now.
But the main issue is that Transmission is now missing, as if it had been uninstalled. When I SSH and check the hidden .qpkg folder, I see the app is there. It needs Optware to run, so I try starting it but get an “Optware is disabled” error.
I saved the Optware and Transmission .qpkg files, so tried manually installing them first but the install would just hang. When trying through PuTTY it looks like the Optware install hangs where it’s trying to download the ipkg, because I assume the source no longer exists?
I know these apps and this setup is old and outdated, but it was working flawlessly for years and now suddenly it’s not. I will look into upgrading but for the time being wanted to see if there was anything I can do to get this back up and running quickly.
I checked the qpkg.conf file and don’t see Optware or Transmission listed there, although their folders are still there in /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg.
Yes everything is there and data is untouched. Just had to go and reconfigure some general settings like Time, Scheduled Scan Jobs and SMART disk checks.
How long has it been since you do a scheduled reboot, like, since when you don’t update it (or does it no longer receive updates?). As much as they say that the servers do not shut down, from time to time must be made scheduled restarts to see refresh of the continuous load they carry, it is recommended to keep the computer up-to-date (if it still receives updates), I would suggest you do that first before trying anything, if this is your case you don’t have time without updating it.
Check one of the following below to see if it fits your case:
Some apps suddenly disappearing from your QNAP can be due to several reasons. Here are the most common ones:
Firmware or App Updates
Sometimes, after updating the NAS firmware or apps, some apps may no longer be compatible or may be automatically uninstalled if they don’t meet the new requirements.
File System Issues
If there is file system corruption or hard drive errors, apps may not load properly or may even disappear from the menu.
Disabled Third-Party Apps
If you installed apps from external (unofficial) sources, they may be disabled after a reboot, update, or change to security settings.
Insufficient Space
When the system detects a lack of space, it may disable certain features or apps to maintain NAS stability.
Permission or User Settings
If user or privilege settings have changed, some apps may no longer be visible to certain users.
Malware or Unauthorized Access
In more severe cases, if the system has been compromised (such as with QSnatch or DeadBolt malware), some apps may disappear or become inaccessible.
I restart it only when I do firmware updates on our router, which can usually be several months apart. I have restarted it several times already and the apps are still missing.
All those reasons you listed don’t apply as far as I can tell, and the spontaneous reset was a factory bug. It has not happened since I disabled the reset button.
If anyone familiar can please help me code this back to a working state I’d really appreciate it. As mentioned, the apps are still there in MD0_DATA but disabled.
I found a qpkg.conf in etc/default_config that does not have the apps listed there. Am I looking in the right location? Couldn’t seem to find qpkg.conf anywhere else.
