Backup app

Hi,

I am totally new to QNAP, and I am migrating from Synology. I have a couple of Linux-based servers that I need to back up, but I could not find any app that can do this. Synology has an app “Active Backup for Business” that creates versioned backups. Is there any alternative in QNAP world?

Thanks

QNAP uses HBS3, should be a default app in your app center.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I’ve tried HBS3, but it seems that it’s not possible to select multiple folders to (r)sync. I’m unsure if it’s a bug, or if am I missing something?

Please explain exactly what you are trying to do and what does not work

I have 2 linux servers, and I want to backup 2 service configuration files, like DHCP and BIND, so I need to backup /etc/dhcp and /etc/named folders. So far, I could set up rsync of a single folder, but not the other one in the same backup job, since the “Select source” allows me to select only one folder.

If I do an HBS3 active sync job (pull) I can mount several different shares (or subfolders of shares) into one job.

That’s what I would expect. And here is what I have:

:confounded:

Weird, what NAS model, firmware and HBS version is this ?

TS-673A, QuTS hero h5.2.3.3006, and HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync
Version 25.1.4.952

Works fine on QuTS for me TVS-h1288X on h5.1.7.277 (bit outdated)

Not sure if it is a bug on this version of the software. I’ve tried different browsers to no avail. Thinking about installing QTS instead.

I must admit, compared to Synology, QNAP has no inituitivity, and the app offer is very limited. Did not expect this.

Can you please try the rsync remote server instead of the CIFS? I have no CIFS server, so I cannot do it myself. Not sure if it’s related to the protocol…

I never use rsync, but yes with rsync it does not work to create multiple pairs (just tried)

I am starting to regret moving away from Synology :confounded:

Either open a ticket to complain, just enable CIFS/SMB or just do two rsync jobs.

Should not be a showstopper.

Yeah, I guess you’re right. It’s just that it’s another service that needs to be taken care of. I was really expecting a bit more from QNAP. Everything I am used to is different and somehow unfinished (Syslog server, Backup…) or just does not exists.
