Challenges accessing an SMB Share

I am using QTS 5.2.8.3359

I created a share, making it to a manual location e.g. \ip\Myshare → a folder in Filestation myfiles\backup\photos

I created a user photosuser that has RW access to this share and folder.

I can browse to \ip\myshare yusing my main admin account but not the photouser account.

You have to give your main admin account permission to access that folder in Shared Folder Permissions.

Hi, yes it does have access. I can also browse to the share using the main admin account.

Have you enabled “Advanced Folder Permissions” on your system?

Thanks!

Yes I have. I will try start from scratch again once I get some more free time,

Ok so started from Scratch.

Ensured “Advanced Folder Permissions” are enabled

Created new user, “photouser”

Created new share linking to a subfolder within a folder that is part of a different share.

New user has RW permissions on the share

Browsed to the new share ad the autnetication box pops up but neither the new user or the admin user will authenticate.

I must be missing something.

I would like to follow up and ask if the issue still persists? Our team suspects this might be related to permission settings: if “Advanced Folder Permissions” is enabled, it’s possible that the new user “photosuser” has not been granted access to the entire path: /myfiles/backup/photos.

If any folder along this path lacks proper authorization, it will prevent access to the target directory. We recommend re-verifying the settings for each folder level. Thank you!
