One has failed and I want to replace it with a 16TB .
I know that it will be treated as a 14TB drive in RAID , but if all the other 3 fails , then all will be replaced with 16TB drives
I have checked the NAS QNAP compatibility list , and all the drive model numbers that I want to use are not available in the UK
I don’t want to spend about £700 on a HDD only to find that it is not compatible , chance that the drive will not work . I have already made one mistake already and have a drive that the NAS does not like !!!
Any thoughts please
I have created a support ticket , but so far have not received a reply
Buy from a place with a 30 day (or more) return policy. It should be fine as @NA9D says, but it is always good to have a backup plan (i.e. return option).
OK - Like I said - you can use just about any hard drive that is on the market - especially if you buy a hard drive designed for NAS use. Stay away from the “cheaper” models, but the WD Red drives are good or the Seagate Iron Wolf drives are good, etc. I’m very partial to HGST drives. Anything made for servers or NAS are great.
Curently on my Ts 453 i have 2 western digital and 2 seagate. All are specific for Nas so with a long live time even if we are never sure that we can face an hardware issue. If you use sata drive check that there are specific to run on a Nas 7/7 24/24. It’s more expensive but with m’y expérience after more than 8 years and 2 Naps change no Problem and still keep thé data until each Nas change.
sadly I bought a Seagate 14TG ST14000NM021 , and this is showing as 2 drives of 6.37TB each and a warning telling me that the drive is unsuitable for rebuilding the RAID group
