Did my TS-251+ just go tits up?

I got an email indicating this error:

[Error][Hardware Status] Notification from your device: DGHomeNAS

NAS Name: DGHomeNAS
Severity: Error
Date/Time: 2026/03/19 19:45:35

App Name: Hardware Status
Category: Fans
Message: [Hardware Status] System fan 1 failed.

Went to the unit, heard the fan running full speed and all LED indicators appeared normal. Couldn’t login through the web interface so I tried to do an orderly shutdown using the front panel power switch. When it still hadn’t shutdown after 5 minutes I forced a hard shutdown with a long press of the power button. Popped the 2 drives and opened the case, other than some dust there was nothing visibly wrong, the fan spun freely. Inserted the drives and powered on, the Status LED remained off, LAN LED flashed amber, USB LED solid blue, and both drive LEDs stay on solid red. The drives don’t sound like they spun up. Shutdown, popped the drives, powered on, same thing. Put the drives back in, powered on, same thing. It’s been in constant service for 10 years. Is it a goner?

That is the VERY common LPC death.

Hey, thank you for the quick response and pointer to the old forum. It’s time to move on to a new unit.

Hi @DDGOH ,

Sorry to hear that your TS-251+ appears to have reached this point, and thank you for sharing the update.

Thank you.

Before giving up on it, I would try the resistor fix. Nothing to lose.

Hi @Lucas,

Thanks for the pointer, I’ve submitted my old NAS info to get a promo discount.
