Hi, I’m new here - I’m an old codger, long-retired Windows sysadmin. I have a TS-469Pro running QTS 4.3.4… which I believe was the final firmware upgrade for this server. I’m running 4 x 3TB WD Red disks in a RAID6 config. Recently I had a disk failure and sudden shutdown and on reboot QTS asked for a file system check, which I ran, but did not solve the problem. I replaced the faulty drive and the RAID6 rebuilt itself (apparently successfully) - file system still unclean. Now the volume is unmounted, I cannot run the file check either from the storage manager or SSH (via PuTTY) and the Dashboard says the storage is Locked (I have never encrypted the volume). The disks and the RAID seem OK when I look via SSH but when I try to run e2fsck it says the volume is in use by another process (but it’s unmounted). Help!
Probably best to open a support ticket…
Thanks for the reply. I’ve managed to fix the problem. I was running e2fsck against the wrong device map, thanks to Google’s AI bot. The problem with AI is that if you don’t ask the right question, you don’t get the right answer. Anyway, problem seems to be mostly resolved, with a little bit of cleaning up to do. Thanks again.
Yeah, be very careful with AI. You can’t always trust it.
I spent hours last weekend, trying to get ChatGPT to generate some plans for a deck I am rebuilding. It kept getting the shape and dimensions of my deck completely incorrect. It was making assumptions that were just completely wrong. And it would tell me it could do things and then when I’d ask it to do them, it would say, “Oh sorry, I can’t do that.” Finally the organic-I between my ears created the drawing and figured it all out faster…
I’ve seen other whoppers from AI engines as well. It’s fine to help you draft a letter or something like that, but if you want tech help or something more serious, yeah - caveat emptor…
