Is there any engineering underway to add a second controller so that we can patch a NAS with active VM’s on an iSCSI connection without disrupting the VM’s?
We have several storage setups and all, but QNAP have the duel controllers, both for redundancy and patching while keeping the VM’s operational.
Today, when we get a firmware upgrade, we must either turn off or move the VM’s, patch, then get everything back online and transferred over. This is a royal pain and it eats up a lot of my time after hours.
Love QNAP, but this is a major issue. With two controllers we could patch and reboot one, then fall over to the secondary, patch and reboot it. No downtime and more free time for the tall handsome sysadmins out there.
Dual controller NAS are for redundancy or upgradablity without downtime … check with QNAP support/sales what models are currently sold, as the specs page does show nothing about EOL or legacy status
CDW has it on backorder (but I had cases where that was false info)
