email server

I am the proud owner of a QNAP-TS-464
I got all set up where I would like it and I’ve already
have it scheduled to backup Certain files on my computer

after countless read the documents do research online
I finally figured out how to use the notification center

I do have one problem with it
when I’m setting up for the email server Gmail of course it asked me for an email address
but on the other hand so does the Recipients

the issue is when notification sends me an email
when you look where it came from
the from: and to: have the same email address
how do I fix this I would assume the from: should say QNAP

So you can set the “Name” of the sender to whatever you want (I forget if that is an option when setting it up). But the QNAP is sending mail through your email account to you. So yeah, it will be the same typically. Is that an issue?

It’s not really a problem it’s rather annoying if anything

because when it comes into my email it comes in as saying me which is kind of funny

because it’s QNAP that sent it

I couldn’t find anything that allows me to change the sending name I will look again

Yes, but “QNAP” is just the device, it is YOUR mail account that is being used as the actual sender.

If you really want a way around this, create an email account with whatever name you want to use for notifications (I have multiple hotmail and gmail accounts that I use for this sort of thing) and authenticate that as your notifier.

I am actually thinking about that generating another email I already have four of them including Hotmail

I was just curious about this QNAS because I have more than one NAS units and they don’t do that when they send me a notification

No. When you set it up with mail account, it is your mail account that is being used. That is the way it should be. You can set whatever subject you want in the email. So who cares who is sending it.

So I actually tried your suggestion and created another email account

and now in my opinion it’s working exactly the way it’s supposed to
