Feature Requests & UI Improvements – QTS
Device: QNAP TVS-871 (8-bay)
QTS Version: 5.2.11 (Build 20261014)
Hello QNAP Development Team,
I would like to submit several feature requests and user interface improvements concerning QTS. These suggestions aim to improve hardware monitoring, interface customization and the overall user experience.
1. Native temperature monitoring for PCIe expansion cards
QTS currently provides temperature monitoring for several internal hardware components, but temperature readings from PCIe expansion cards are not natively exposed in the system interface.
For example, I am using a QNAP QXG-10G1T 10GbE network expansion card, which has temperature sensors accessible at the hardware level.
It would be very useful if QTS could:
-
Automatically detect temperature sensors on compatible PCIe expansion cards.
-
Display their temperatures directly in the Control Panel, Resource Monitor or a dedicated hardware monitoring section.
-
Integrate these readings into the system’s monitoring and notification mechanisms.
-
Support compatible third-party expansion cards where hardware sensors are available.
This would eliminate the need for SSH commands or third-party scripts to monitor expansion card temperatures.
2. Option to hide the QTS watermark on the login screen
I would also like to request an option to hide or disable the QTS watermark displayed on the login screen.
A simple setting in the login screen customization options would be sufficient, allowing administrators to choose whether the watermark is displayed.
Additionally, there appears to be a minor display issue affecting some configurations where disabling or modifying the watermark leaves residual text such as “Version .” on the login screen.
I would appreciate it if QNAP could investigate this issue and provide a small UI/CSS patch to ensure that no unwanted text or visual remnants remain when the watermark is hidden or its associated information is unavailable.
3. Dynamic or configurable desktop page management
QTS currently provides three desktop pages by default, regardless of how many shortcuts are actually present.
For example, a user with only four application shortcuts still has three desktop pages available, even though the additional pages serve no practical purpose.
I would suggest introducing a more flexible desktop page management system:
-
Automatic mode: The number of desktop pages adjusts dynamically according to the number and distribution of shortcuts.
-
Manual mode: Users can choose the number of desktop pages they want, according to their own preferences.
-
Automatically remove or hide unused pages when they contain no shortcuts.
-
Allow users to add or remove desktop pages as needed.
The objective is to avoid unnecessary empty desktop pages while giving users greater control over their workspace.
These three improvements would make QTS more flexible, polished and user-friendly.
They concern relatively straightforward improvements that could significantly enhance the daily experience of QNAP NAS administrators and users.
I would appreciate it if these requests could be forwarded to the relevant QTS development teams for consideration in a future firmware release.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
A QNAP TVS-871 user
