Getting Started....simple dumb question...

Hello…. I am just getting started with basic RAID - here is my use case and I have a simple question…

I’m direct attaching the TR-002 to a MacBook Pro with M4 processor. The TR-002 will have two 4TB WD Red PRO 7200’s attached. I am using this to store Nikon RAW image files only - for basic editing. It’s for hobby use only so not batch editing 100’s of image files - just editing a handful of files at a time. No video editing. I expect to use about 2.5 TB of image storage so plan is to use RAID 1 in case of drive failure.

QUESTION: Do I really need to use the QNAP External RAID manager? Would rather just use HARDWARE RAID instead. However, if I do this - how do I update the Tr-002 firmware in the future? Is there another QNAP utility or other way to update the firmware directly?

If you need to update the enclosure’s firmware (FW), you must first install QNAP External RAID Manager.

You can check out the relevant tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiAJsEmI2LE

However, please note that we rarely update the firmware for disk enclosure, unless there’s a need for new drive compatibility or it’s absolutely necessary.
