Hard drive missing

Hi all
I have a T212-E. I was connecting it after a long time and it didn’t worked. Network folder disappeared. QFinder finds it but following message appears when I doubleclick on it in the list:
I have a Macbook Pro with macOS 12.7.6 (21H1320) connecting it with an ethernet cable.
I noticed a repeating strange noise from the harddrive. What can I try to save my data???

Hard Drive Missing

Install and format at least one hard drive before using the NAS. A hard drive can be inserted to an empty disk bay without turning off the NAS. For the hard disk compatibility list, please visit Compatibility List - QNAP

Note: All the drive data will be cleared upon hard drive initialization.

Please make sure the disk(s) are installed correctly.

If the hard drive is making strange noises, it’s probably a hardware fault.

Sadly many people realize this too late, but NAS are not magic, you need to backup your data or you will lose your data eventually (drives die, mistakes are made, bad actors come around)

Please bring the NAS to a data recovery service provider and have them take a look at it, it will cost you a lot of money.

In the future, remember to always have backups (no, a RAID is NOT a backup!)

Repeated clicking sounds from hard drives are never good things. The drive is likely dead.

It seems like if hard drives are not run for a long time, they die. I had multiple drives in an old MacPro that at one point were good but had sat there unused for years. When I purchased my TS-873A late last year, I started pulling out all these old drives wanting to copy the data to my NAS. Nope. Nearly all were dead. Some didn’t even spin up. I lost a ton. Sadly some videos and things that are now gone for good. I couldn’t afford really to pay the thousands of dollars for data recovery…

As mentioned above, a hard drive making strange noises is completely abnormal. We hope the data inside has been backed up, as in that case, you can simply replace the hardware.

However, if you don’t have a backup and have important data that you can’t access at all, you may need to seek professional assistance.

Hi there
Fortunately, I was able to get it working again. I ran it with the wrong power supply :see_no_evil: Maybe not enough power.

Then I hope backups are your next steps…learn your lessons!
