HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync 26.2.0.938, problem backup to external device

I have been making partial backups for many years from my TS-253A to an external harddisk “WD MyBook Essential 2TB” until I updated to HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync 26.2.0.938.

HBS finishes the backup task with an error [Hybrid Backup Sync] Finished Backup job “Backup” with errors. Failed to copy all data and attributes.
Checking the integrity results in [Hybrid Backup Sync] Backup job “Backup”: Finished data integrity check. Found damaged files at destination.
Later integrity checks stalled on 1%.

To rule out the disc, I checked the external disk on other systems and run SMART without any issues. Also the external disc has still 420GB free space.

I tried to create a new backup job which gave an error Cannot upload to the NAS. Invalid Path.

When I try to access the content of the external disc (menubar > external device), it opens an instance of Filestation 5.5.6.2195 and instead of showing the content of the external disc (like it did for years) it shows only the nas content.

So, I am not sure the problem lies in the HBS since there are hints that something is bugged with the external device path inside QTS 5.2.7.3297.

I’m not sure of your issue specifically but my understanding of the error is that things like permissions and other attributes of the files were copied. I use TimeMachine to backup my Macs. Then I use HBS to back those up to an external drive on a weekly basis.

I get this same error every week. I’m not certain why. But I am using the exact same version of HBS as you and I can browse all my files, etc.

I would copy your data of the disk, wipe it and try again…

If you get this error every week, I doubt wiping it and try it again would make a difference.
There might be a bug somewhere. Did you test the integrity of your disc? And did you create a ticket?

I have not opened a ticket or checked data integrity. I figure it’s because I am backing up a Time Machine backup. I can run an integrity check sure.

Does your backup job include Time Machine?

We will ask our internal lab to try and reproduce your issue. Also, are you comfortable using SSH? Thanks!

Who are you asking? Me or @paleosonic ? Mine is all Time Machine. I’m fine using SSH.

@SteveKo thanks for escalating this to your lab. I am not using Time Machine and working with SSH is fine. Is there some information that I can retrieve by SSH?

Update:
Today, I’ve been tinkering with several USB sticks and an old IDE disk. All these media show their content in File Station and allow a backup without a problem.

Conclusion; although the 2TB disk has only 14 hours uptime, I suspect the interface connection has gone bad. HBS can not be blamed for my issue.

I just bought a WD Elements 8TB and it is now creating new backups!
