HBS backup from one NAS to another: keeps getting bigger

Hello everyone, in our small company we use a QNAP NAS as our server and now have another one for data backup. With HBS3, it’s also very easy to set up. I thought the backup would be incremental, meaning only the changed or newly added data would be backed up each time. But far from it. HBS3 seems to make a full backup every time, so the storage of the second (dedicated backup NAS) is basically getting filled up. I noticed this when an error message appeared saying the backup could not be completed because there was not enough storage space. I looked in the HBS3 settings to find an option to change this behavior, but couldn’t find anything.

When backing up to an external HDD (via USB), which automatically starts with HBS3 as soon as the drive is connected, this does not happen.

Is this a feature, a bug, or am I just too dumb to set it up correctly?

Regards, Thomas

About the system: The server is a TS-231K and the backup NAS is a TS-133.

Hi @tomsenjo
Could you please check the backup job report to see how many Process Files and what Transfer Size is displayed for each backup?
If it is a full backup, both values should normally be quite large.
