I use the HBS backup app and have set it up to use the QNAP cloud storage. I’ve tested the restore functionality and all has worked nicely. However, I’m wondering what the procedure would be if the NAS where I have HBS installed and that holds the data I’ve backed up is no longer available. If it fails, or gets damaged, or gets stolen, I’d like to be able to restore from the cloud backup. But without the NAS where HBS is running, how would I recover? Do I need a replacement QNAP first? How would I recreate the job to perform the restore? I’d like to test this procedure, in case it becomes critical.
Greetings,
Take a look at the Qudedup extract tool. Its listed under enterprise apps.
It lets you convert .qdff files to their original format. Note, you have to have it enabled for your back ups. You should be able to test with little effort from the cloud. This would allow file recovery without a NAS.
Perfect. Thanks for this info. I found the tool and will experiment with its use. Thanks again.
I have a couple of clarification questions. I’ve looked at my backup files and see that it’s a QDFF file. So, the requirement that I “enable this for my backup” is satisfied, right?
I’ve installed the QuDedup tool and opened it. Looks like it will only access a QDFF file that has been downloaded to the local PC where I’ve installed the tool, right? My backup is roughly 15 GB. I’m using the QNAP cloud storage and it’s been good. I started a download and can see that it was going to create multiple zip files. This was going to take too long, so I aborted the download. I have run a restore job from the cloud and it ran pretty quickly.
Is there any other way to do this without downloading the backup file onto my PC that might be faster; or, is that just the way it works.
