Hi, I’m in the process of testing NAS to NAS backups using HBS3 Hybrid Backup and Sync with two QNAP TS-464U-RP. Backups are made using RTRR Server and both NASs are connected together with a direct ethernet cable.
The main unit has the QTS firmware and contains a windows backup folder with a size of 42GB. The second unit was tested first with QTS. A pool was created, followed by a volume and a backup folder. Backup time was 47 minutes.
QuTS Hero was then installed on the second unit following a factory reset, a pool was created with a shared folder. Backup time was 3:17 minutes. Nothing changed aside from the Firmware. All firmware was up to date and the file was the same. The result were repeated several times. What explains such a large difference in time? Would it be possible to improve performance using QTS?
Hello, based on our multiple tests, our internal team was unable to reproduce the performance difference you mentioned.
Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, would it be convenient for you to open a Support Ticket for us? We will investigate the problem further. Thank you!
I had the same problem a few years ago using HBS3 between a TVS-h1688x with QuTS Hero and a TVS-EC1080+ with QTS. After numerous tests, I discovered that the blocksize of the QuTS Hero shared folder must be the same as the destination one on the other NAS. I had customized the blocksize to 32kb for small documents, but this greatly slowed down synchronization. I hope this helps.
The block size of shared Hero folders can vary depending on how you set up the shared folder. I have multiple different block sizes. For the destination space (also Hero), I set up the recommended size for backup.
I have not seen any issue. Maybe it is because both sides are Hero? I don’t know. But my backup speeds seem fine.
