HD Player Fails to run video files

I have installed HD Deskstation and cannot get HD Player to work. It finds my video files and shows thumbnails but fails to run the video files. I have installed Cayin Media player (basic) for the codecs.

What am I missing?

My host is windows 11, Qnap model ts-251+, QTS 5.2.8.3359, single drive, Seagate Ironwolf 10TB.

Many thanks

Where does the host come into play when you use HDStation?

I’d say buy a streaming stick (android, apple, chrome, roku) and use a SMB capable player (e.g. KODI) ..1000x better

Honestly, the HD Deskstation interface is absolutely awful. It’s like 15 years too old. I tried it multiple times and yuck.

For some reason QNAPs native media player struggles with playing content. I’ve tried it a million times and had much frustration. Even tried using a GPU to speed up video conversion, etc. Nope. Not a good experience.

Then I discovered Plex. Way, way, way better and has zero problem playing content, it has a modern interface and works very well. Plus now you don’t need to have your NAS hooked up to your TV, use outdated web browsers in the interface to navigate, etc.

You will be much happier if you just use Plex. Trust me.

Thanks Guys. I was just trying out the Hybrid Deskstation and wondered if I had done something wrong in my setup. I already use both Plex and Kodi on my Smart TV with QNAP server supplying content so I don’t need to run things off the server directly. Seems like not worth bothering with!

I agree the interface is not good and apps flaky. They took Kodi and Plex off the deskstation which says something. Though I prefer Plex to Kodi (not least for automatic library updates) but my TV struggles to supprt Plex (Panasonic) so sometimes I use Kodi. I guess this is the downside of free software!

Both of your systems could start struggling to be honest, if your TV is not able to keep up with more modern codecs, your NAS is also getting up there in age. That Celeron CPU is pretty slow and limited in codec support (not to mention the looming LPC death)

Thank you for your feedback. Please note that Cayin Media Signage Player does not currently support all video formats. To help us investigate further, could you please let us know the video format?

Thanks SteveKo but I won’t bother. Other feedback seems to suggest I am wasting my time.
