I have a backup job with only 3 version retention. HDP doesn’t free up the space for the outdated data.
Here is my setup:
HDP PC Agent v1.4.0 (2026-03-10) and HDP for PC/VM Version 2.3.3 (2026/03/17) on QNAP TVS-872XT.
I noticed yesterday couldn’t finish a job, I’ve got a warning about that. The cause is that the PC was shutdown while making the backup.
Today I started manually to create a backup and it did a full backup eating up double the space I have the data. Then I decided to push forward, I created again and again some backups until the backup explorer did not showed me older backup than the last three which in total has a comparable amount of data with the current data from where I took the backup.
I tried to restart the HDP on the NAS, then also the NAS, just to trigger somehow a garbage collection. After a long time (maybe 1 hour) just started to happen a garbage collection.
In my opinion, any failed job should be garbage collected (aka. rollback to the previous), otherwise is really difficult to reach the point so the outdated data to be garbage collected.
