Help Starting/recovering TS-251D

I am working with a TS-251D thats not starting I can get to the Bios. I tried the NAS Recovery Guide for this model walked through the steps now I beeps 3 times and the fan “breathes”. Any helpful suggestions?

If I am posting in the wrong place please be nice.

Does it boot into setup without drives?

If not, do a firmware recovery

I followed the instructions in the NAS Recovery Guide for x86-based NAS | QNAP (US) to no avail or did you have something else in mind dolbyman.

Back to the question though, does it boot into setup without drives ?

Hello,

Your description of the fan ‘breathing’ sounds just like an issue I ran into. During my firmware recovery, I missed the very last step—installing the latest firmware. My NAS fan started cycling high and low repeatedly until I fixed it. It might be worth checking if that final firmware update took or needs to be reapplied. Hope this helps!

I will say no, I see no “setup” just a black screen with a prompt.

WEBSetup needs to be opened from a web browser (find the IP via Qfinder or your DHCP server), forget this NAS has any HDMI ports.

I have no way to connect to it to check for the update, thus far.

Not sure what you mean.

After the NAS (DOM) recovery, the NAS should boot into setup with the base OS, from there it should be updatable (with a spare HDD) to a current OS version.

I am running Qfinder on a Linux PC with no firewall running no result. Tried an ip sniffer and it sees no address not accounted for. I checked the cable by connecting it to a laptop and the laptop is seen on the network.

Then you might have to redo the recovery, by default the NAS will check for a DHCP server. If it does not, it’s not working right.

I will recreate the DOM reinstall and try again maybe something went wrong with the install

I may have used cp dom.img /dev/mmcblk0 instead of cp dom.img /dev/sdb the first time through
