I’d like to warn everyone using NVMe drives against updating to version 6.0. After three days, the RAID stopped working. The drive is visible in the system but shows an I/O error. Today, while copying data, the second drive stopped being visible in the system altogether. I didn’t have these problems with version 5.2. And there’s no way to undo the update.

Suggest checking the firmware version on your Samsung 990 Pro NVME drives. I had a QTS 990 Raid-0 configuration that had been running for months and then had a drive failure and the drive not being visible on QTS based system. I found a 09/2025 firmware fix (see Samsung note below) that appeared to relate directly to the problem I had experienced. I updated firmware on my drives and have not had any further problems.
(7B2QJXD7) To address the intermittent non-recognition and blue screen issue. (Release: September 2025)
For anyone looking to update their drives, please note that Samsung has released another firmware update for the 990 drives (note below)
*(8B2QJXD7) To improve read-operation stability. (Release : December 2025)
Thanks for the reply, I’ll check it out. I had the same problem as you with version 5.2, but with version 6.0, the drive is visible in the software, showing all the SMART parameters without errors, but there’s an input/output error message and it’s unavailable for use. I don’t know what to do in this case.
Today, support resolved the issue remotely, which took almost an hour and a half. I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know.
No issues with my Samsung raid. All works as expected.
