How to handle photo and file duplicates?

Greetings all,

I’m looking to buy a home NAS system for data backup. Right now, I use a cloud service called iDrive.

However, I’ve noticed that somehow, I’ve no idea how, my data has been duplicated not once, or twice but FIVE times in my iDrive account.

If I have to sort through it all manually, I’ll most likely go crazy. Please tell me there is an easier way to detect/manage/delete duplicate files/videos/photos and so on??

Thank you,

-Terry

There is plenty of duplicate file finder tools, here is one:

You should make sure to find where the issue was, what exactly created your duplicates. What backup tool was used ?

If you use the same faulty tool with your NAS, it will do the same.

If we already have a lot of duplicates on the NAS will that app work across the NAS drives?

Just downloaded it and answering my own question. It is now scanning my 23 thousand photos on my NAS. Thanks for the tip.

Going to have to try that one. I have used an app called fdupes and it works fine also.

@ThatRedHeadGuy - I have iDrive as well. Use the QNAP iDrive app. Do NOT fall for iDrive’s new NAS backup that works with HBS. You’ll pay 10 times the amount for storage. I have 20TB of storage on iDrive and pay something like $200 for it and the iDrive app works very well.
