Hi, I’ve been away for a long time from the QNAP community. Today I was looking for an old thread and noticed that since 2025 the old forum has been discontinued. Actually I read about that but I thought it would have been set as read only.
My question is: how do I retrieve old information that was “protected” by a login on the old forum? For example, a thread like this:
https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?t=52511
obviously asks for a login, but even if I provide mine, the only thing that I get is an The specified username is currently inactive error. So, if the forum is read-only, the parts hidden by a login should be made public too, otherwise they’re lost forever!
My bookmarked topics cannot be recovered, but at least Gopgle could be used to search the old information if the old forum search engine cannot be used anymore (annoying, too).
It’s a pity that such a great piece of info, and history and memories are lost in a black hole.
I agree, it would be better if QNAP simply(?) removed the requirement to login. It seems that QNAP only set the old forum database as read-only, but left the UI functionality as-is.
@SteveKo, can the login requirement to the old forum be removed please?
Same problem here. Wasn’t allowed to see files attached to a post without logging in. Tried to login and simply tells me my account is inactive. No explanation why or that the whole forum now has no login anymore. And as you guys already said, they didn’t release the requirement for the login. Another half-ass job well done.
BTW: Is there somewhere an explanation for this forum to community move? What was the benefit of making life difficult for the customers? Can’t be to attract more customers.
More or less… from Chrome and Firefox browser I can see the forum, while from Samsung Internet I get a Forbidden error. Maybe there’s an user agent filter now?
Also I cannot open the direct link I’ve posted above in the first post, as it asks for a login. And the home page does not list the QPKG section, for example.
That’s a pity, too, especially if Google cannot index the forum pages.
