I haven’t used the NAS for quite some time. Now, when I log in, I can access the web browser page, see the files, and access them (also works in Finder), but the “Administration” page is frozen because it’s trying to load some “news” from Qnap, which never happens. So, I can’t access any features under “Administration” because the page is simply frozen (trying to load the “news”). Any ideas?
That’s a pretty old NAS (16 years) with really outdated firmware. (I think I remember this issue from the old forum) Best to do an update via Qfinder. (Is there a backup?)
That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. But it doesn’t work, because as soon as you go to “Administration” in Qfinder, the screen just freezes—meaning no buttons or functions are usable. Interestingly, the other websites/functions work just fine. On the administration page, it apparently tries to load the “News” and when it doesn’t get a response from the server, it times out. Is it possible to do a firmware update directly from the NAS? I’ve already put a newer version of the firmware there before, but the “image” seems to be corrupted—at least it doesn’t open when I click on it.
Additionally, we would like to point out that this NAS model appears to be a very old device, which may already be out of warranty as well as beyond the regular security and maintenance period.
Please make sure that all your important data is fully backed up, regularly check the condition of your hard drives, and consider potential security risks when continuing to operate an older device. If no further security updates are provided, we also recommend not exposing the NAS directly to the Internet.
If you are considering replacing the device, you can check out the Trade-In offer from the QNAP EU Store:
You need to do the update via SSH. The current QFinder can’t manage NAS devices with QTS 3. Alternatively, you can look for an older version of QFinder.
