Loading OS on NVME's

I’m migrating from my TS-251+ to a four bay - most likely the 453E. My thought is to use my NVME drives for the operating system (mirror them) to minimize platter chatter and extend perhaps even more the life of my HDDs. Not to mention, speed up the OS functions.

Has anyone done that? Is that possible on the 453E?

Not by default, no (the OS gets replicated across all disks)

If you want to fiddle via SSH

Thank you very much for your response. I have been searching through Reddit, etc. and even dug up some posts here using Google search about this.

In short, if I now understand this correctly, even if I do load the OS initially onto just the Nvme’s, once I then install the four HDDs the OS will end up “migrating” (for lack of a better word) across all the drives I install.

Therefore, there is NO benefit to doing so. Is that a correct summary? Or is there still some benefit?

The benefit would be to have the system volume on SSD (where all apps are installed) that would still give you a boost, depending on what apps you run
